Summary: Investing In The Fruit Of Love

Step 1

Read Galatians 5:22-23:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Are you ready to make an investment in the Fruit of Love?

Step 2

Describe a time in your life when you found yourself completely obsessed with a situation, goal or person.

Write your answer in the space provided.

Step 3

Go to 'Documents' above and read Oswald Chambers' description of what it means to be obsessed by God.

Select 'Successful' when you are finished.

Step 4

Oswald states:

"The abiding awareness of the Christian life is to be God Himself, not just thoughts about Him. The total being of our life inside and out is to be absolutely obsessed by the presence of God."

How often do you find yourself settling for 'having thoughts about God' instead of being 'obsessed' by Him?

Step 5

Oswald continues:

"...we are to “live and move and have our being” in God (Acts 17:28), looking at everything in relation to Him, because our abiding awareness of Him continually pushes itself to the forefront of our lives."

Take a moment to imagine that you were living your life 'obsessed by God' with the same level of determination, focus and passion that you demonstrated in your answer in Step 2.

When you have that image firmly established, describe how your life might be different as a result. Be specific.

Step 6

Oswald adds:

"If we are obsessed by God, nothing else can get into our lives— not concerns, nor tribulation, nor worries. And now we understand why our Lord so emphasized the sin of worrying."

As you begin to shift your obsession to God, how much do you imagine it will lower your current level of stress and worry?

Step 7

Oswald challenges us with:

"How can we dare to be so absolutely unbelieving when God totally surrounds us?"

How would you answer that question?

Step 8

Is there anything you would like to repent of (express your sorrow to God)?

If so, you can do so privately or in the space provided.

Step 9

Oswald continues:

"To be obsessed by God is to have an effective barricade against all the assaults of the enemy."

Is there anything you would like to thank or praise God for?

Step 10

Oswald concludes:

“He himself shall dwell in prosperity...” (Psalm 25:13). God will cause us to “dwell in prosperity,” keeping us at ease, even in the midst of tribulation, misunderstanding, and slander, if our “life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). We rob ourselves of the miraculous, revealed truth of this abiding companionship with God. “God is our refuge...” (Psalm 46:1). Nothing can break through His shelter of protection."

How important to you is it to stop robbing yourself of the spiritual and emotional prosperity and protection that is available to you in God right now and forever?

Step 11

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you one action you can take today that will demonstrate your desire to be obsessed with God?

Write down what you receive. (Note: if you do not hear a specific action, write down the first one that comes to your mind.)

Step 12

Are you willing to follow through on this action today? If so, consider telling a trusted friend what you are going to do and when you are going to do it.

Step 13

Becoming more obsessed with God is not a one time event, but an ongoing process.

For that reason, this Navitent is now in your library to schedule as often as you like.

How much has this Trail increased the fruit of love in your current disposition?
