Summary: Investing in the fruit of kindness.

Step 1

Read Galatians 5:22-23:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Are you ready to make an investment in the Fruit of Kindness?

Step 2

Read Hebrews 11:8:

"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going."

Concerning where your life is taking you, how much uncertainty are you currently experiencing?

Step 3

Go to 'DOCUMENTS' and read Oswald Chamber's comments on Hebrews 11:8.

Select 'Successful' when you are finished.

Step 4

Oswald asks:

"Have you ever “gone out” in this way? If so, there is no logical answer possible when anyone asks you what you are doing. One of the most difficult questions to answer in Christian work is, “What do you expect to do?” You don’t know what you are going to do. The only thing you know is that God knows what He is doing."

Regarding your future, how often do you have difficulty answering the question, “What do you expect to do?”

Step 5

Oswald states:

"Continually examine your attitude toward God to see if you are willing to “go out” in every area of your life, trusting in God entirely."

In all honesty, how much are you currently willing to "go out in every area of your life, trusting in God entirely"?

Step 6

Oswald continues:

"Each morning as you wake, there is a new opportunity to “go out,” building your confidence in God. “...do not worry about your life...nor about the body...” (Luke 12:22). In other words, don’t worry about the things that concerned you before you did “go out.”"

How worried are you that God, ultimately, cannot be counted on to take care of all the details of your life?

Step 7

Oswald observes:

"Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do— He reveals to you who He is."

Do you agree with this observation?

Step 8

Oswald asks:

"Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you “go out” in complete surrender to Him until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does?"

How much do you believe that God is a "miracle-working God"? That, in His kindness, He will provide, protect and guide you, despite what your circumstances may be trying to tell you to the contrary?

Step 9

Next, Oswald challenges us to:

"Believe God is always the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him. Then think how unnecessary and disrespectful worry is!"

Describe a time when you felt closest to God. Specifically, what were the observations and conclusions you made about His character?

Write your response in the space below.

Step 10

Oswald encourages us to:

"Let the attitude of your life be a continual willingness to “go out” in dependence upon God, and your life will have a sacred and inexpressible charm about it that is very satisfying to Jesus."

How much do you want to live that life?

Step 11

Concerning your current ability to trust in God's kindness, to not worry, is there anything you would like to repent of (express your sorrow)?

If so, you can do so privately or in the space provided.

Step 12

Regarding God's overwhelming kindness, is there anything you would to thank and/or praise Him for?

If so, you can do so privately or in the space provided.

Step 13

Oswald concludes:

"You must learn to “go out” through your convictions, creeds, or experiences until you come to the point in your faith where there is nothing between yourself and God."

Are you willing to continue to pursue your Lord and Savior until you arrive at the point, like Abraham, of trusting in God's unfailing kindness?

Step 14

How much has this Trail increased His fruit of kindness in your present disposition?
