Summary:
There's a vision deep inside of you. You've had it all along. * Maybe life happened, and your dreams got a little distorted. * Maybe you felt pressured to compromise. * Maybe you don't remember having a vision for what your adult life could look like. Do you need to reconnect to the very best thing about you? We're talking about your unique vision about what you want your life to look like when you 'grow up'. OR is your vision intact, but you'd like some guidance to put your plans into motion? Either way you've come to the right place. Are you interested in learning more?
Head to the video icon above to watch two very short clips from the film, 'Alice in Wonderland.' They're going to show you what it looks like when the best part of yourself goes underground and then what it looks like to recapture your dreams. Tells us what you thought about the message when you've finished.
Like Alice discovered, when we lose sight of our dreams, it can make us feel like something is way off. We're not comfortable where we've ended up. We've lost something vital inside of us. But what's off? How do you find out, and then how do you get it back so you can pursue your vision for the future? Let's start by getting oriented. Think back to when you were a child. Take a moment to recapture your first dreams about who you wanted to be when you grew up. If you're like most of us, it may have been to be like your favorite superhero or a character in a cartoon, book or movie. Describe this first fantasy hero and what quality they had that made them special to you. You can do so in the space below.
Your early dreams and heroes are still important. Like Alice sometimes we believe we have to remain in a reality that isn't the one we hoped for. How much can you relate to this?
If you can't relate, then is it because you went the other way? Maybe you believe you have to earn the approval of other people to be accepted. We get it. But how fun is that?
As a child, Alice was inquisitive, courageous, fun-loving and full of life! She dreamed about adventure in faraway places. As she grew older, her situation became dramatically different. She suffered losses and big changes. She realized something important was missing, yet she couldn't quite put her finger on what. It was her 'muchness', as the Hatter pointed out. Her 'muchness' was the essence of who she was, which for her was venturing out into the great unknown and being willing to accept heroic challenges. Do you know your 'muchness'? It's the best part about you and what inspires you the most. If you know what it is, then describe it below. Do your best to answer, but if you're not quite sure, continue to the next step to discover more.
Describe who you would become if you completely ignored what others believe about you or what you think they believe about you.
These steps exist to help you reconnect to your dreams and then start putting the pieces in place that will lead you in the right direction. If you know your dream but need some direction to make it happen, then these steps will help you accomplish that goal. Your mission starting now will be to grab hold of your 'muchness'. You have to fight to hang onto to your 'muchness' with everything you've got! It's your greatest gift. It's what sets you apart. It's the essence of who you are and what will bring you the most joy in life and in your relationships. How willing are you to give 'Vision' everything you've got for the next 21 days with no breaks for weekends or holidays?
You can do these steps on your own. However, feel welcome to do them along with JP's Next Step community of teens and young adults in your area who are doing them, too. The local social media group is called a 'Campfire'. You can also join the JP team that guides teens and young adults nationwide facing similar situations. Those larger groups are called 'Campsites', and a 'Campground' is a place for youth from around the world to come work together toward shared objectives.
