Summary:

Step 1

Let's start today with a little interior cleaning.

List old patterns you have that you think probably need to go because they aren't helping you any more.

Step 2

Talk about this with your trusted friend, coach, boss, relative, teacher or mentor.

Will you do this in the next 24 to 48 hours?

Step 3

About mentoring...do you have an idea what a good mentor looks like? We're not talking appearance but what's on the inside that they're able to share with you to help you grow.

They come in all packages, so it's not always easy to spot them.

Go to the video icon for a look at a really good mentor. He knows how to get to the root of a big concern that his student has. Not only that, he knows how to motivate her by finding a way to overcome it that she can relate to.

Check out the clip and let us know how much you felt it.

Step 4

Do you have someone you can talk to, someone like Mr. Holland in the video clip above? If not, think about finding the kind of person you can share your hopes and dreams with.

Look at this way: this person you're looking for is simply someone who is old and wise enough to help you figure out the most realistic solution when you face tough decisions. Why? 'Cause they've been there.

They can help you sort through all the emotional and logistical stuff in your life and get to the one or two simple things to help move you forward.

They challenge and encourage us. They believe in us.

How realistic does that sound in your case?

Step 5

When you're in a position to follow up on it, it helps to know where to find this kind of person.

Try this. Look around you and see if there is someone you know or could get to know in your neighborhood, school, a service organization or at work.

Does anyone come to mind? If so, write down their names and the best way to run into them.

Step 6

One thing to pay attention to is this: someone who LOOKS successful may NOT have the wisdom required to steer you in the right direction.

Look for depth of character, qualities of commitment to values that are important to you, and wisdom.

There is a lot of so-called knowledge in the world, and many who think that they are successful based on accomplishments like income, possessions, college degrees, professional titles or social media followers.

That's not wisdom in and of itself. We're talking about people who have the ability to discern fact from fiction, weigh options carefully before deciding on the best course of action, speak truthfully, act courageously, model integrity, and are patient with others as they learn new concepts. These are good indicators that the person is wise.

How much are you tracking so far?

Step 7

Let's get real. These people may show up from all backgrounds but tend to have one thing in common: they have faced many challenges; they learned from their experiences; they are honest; and they are not quick to make judgments.

How willing are you to search for a person like that in your life?

Step 8

It takes time to find those kind of people.

Don't sweat it. Until they show up, keep returning to this site.

Focus on your navitents for the day. That's what we're here for.

How do you feel about all this?

If you feel wishful or unconfident, feel welcome to post to us in the publisher's space at the bottom and ask for more guidance.

Step 9

Good bye for now. See you tomorrow!
