Step 1

Hi there! Today our aim is to improve your ability to move through the life's challenges and come out feeling pretty solid.

Laura Story is a Christian recording artist. One of her songs is especially gripping.

She'd been married only a short while when her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After surgery he experienced vision and memory loss that he may never recover from.

This sharp, right turn in life inspired her to write a song about the nature of blessing. She wrote, "What if trials of this life are mercies in disguise?"

Your viewpoint on faith aside, let's simply drop back and think about that for a moment:

*What if the blessing is the strength we gain as we go through something difficult?

*What if it's a gift to learn that when things are rough, we're never alone?

*What if the blessing is in realizing that we can be at ease, knowing that there's an order and timing to things that may be beyond our control but, ultimately, will be in our favor?

Describe a difficult experience in your life that ended unexpectedly positive.

Step 2

Would you have experienced anything better if you hadn't gone through that situation?

Step 3

Imagine you're able to talk to someone going through something very similar to your experience.

What would you tell them that could help them make it through?

Step 4

There are people all around experiencing pain and unfair situations.

Look around today.

Find someone who looks like they could use encouragement. Encourage them even if all you can muster right now is a warm smile.

How willing are you to do this?

Step 5

Post what happened to your JP Next Step Camps and to the Publisher (us) for more encouragement.

Bye for today!
