Summary:

Step 1

Hi there!

How are you doing with all this conflict stuff? Are you noticing things you didn't notice before? If so, what are they?

Step 2

Let's see if we can uncover something else that's new.

Describe an interaction where you disagreed with the other person, and one of you said or did something that resolved your differences so that you both felt better.

Step 3

In any part of the interaction did you communicate with them in a way that built up both of you?

Step 4

If so, how did you do this?

If not, what stopped you or got in the way?

Step 5

Why is this important?

The more you apply the best part of yourself to disagreements, the more stable your friendships and relationships become.

That means low drama.

More respect.

More love.

More stability.

How much does this matter to you right now?

Step 6

Here's another tip to keep you headed in a good direction:

Own Your Stuff

Personal responsibility is a strength not a weakness. Strength is being confident enough to admit when you’re wrong.

If you both share some responsibility, admit what’s yours. It diffuses the situation and shows maturity.

It often inspires the other person to respond in kind, leading you both closer to mutual understanding and a solution.

In the best of all scenarios, it helps you gain more trust. It allows guards to be lowered on both sides.

How often do you own your stuff during conflict?

Step 7

Go try it out today and - if it inspires you - post what happened to your JP Next Step campfire (local) and campsite (nationwide) and/or campground (international).

That post could be an encouragement to someone who could use something good about now.

If you haven't joined a Camp but want to, then post your email address in the last open space at the bottom of the page. We'll send you an invite from navitent.com. Click the link. You're in. Read posts in your message icon above.

See you tomorrow!
